1849 Letter from Stockholm

Jonathan Spurrell has written an article for the Anglo-Swedish Society about his ancestor, Rev. Frederick Spurrell, the first regularly appointed Anglican Chaplain in Stockholm. The article begins with a disgruntled account of the state of continental roads, food ("good bread is the rarest thing") and accommodation ("There is not a single good inn or hotel in Sweden"). Rev. Spurrell thought that the people of Sweden reseblembed the English in their manners and customs "more that any other continental nation". READ FULL ARTICLE
