Early Modernism in Swedish & Finnish Art

23rd January 2024 (18:00 - 20:00)
14 Queen Anne's Gate London SW1H 9AA

Christina Cadogan

Council Member and art expert Christina Cadogan will give a talk on Nordic art to the Anglo-Swedish and Anglo-Finnish Societies about the advent of a more modern style of painting in Sweden and Finland in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. This was a time of huge social, political and cultural change in Europe and we will look at how Swedish and Finnish art evolved during this period discussing, amongst others, the work of Hilma af Klint and Helene Schjerfbeck.

Light refreshments will be served and there will be a chance to mingle after the talk.

Refreshments will be served. CLICK HERE TO BOOK: £10 members/ £20 non-members

Events of interest to our members form an important part of the Anglo-Swedish Society's agenda. Some 12-15 are organized every year and highlighted in our newsletters, produced three times yearly. Although there is often an obvious Swedish connection, we take the view that members meeting up and getting to know each other is the key factor in these popular get-togethers. The events are often combined with a lunch, dinner or evening drinks. To apply for ticket, go to the Payment section.
