The Anglo-Swedish Society invited its friends and members to a virtual screening in English of Beyond the Visible: Hilma af Klint, an award winning documentary by Halina Dyrschka, in collaboration with Modern Films. Hilma af Klint, 1862-1944, was a Swedish abstract artist before the term existed, and considered a visionary in Western art who inspired artists like Paul Klee, Cy Twombly, Andy Warhol, Mondrian and Kandinsky, yet for years was almost forgotten. It was not until a 2018 retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum that af Klint finally received recognition. Halina Dyrschka's documentary looks her life and work and considers why the visionary artist has been left out of discussions about the development of abstract painting for so long. View trailer
