Eric J W Orlowski gave a talk about the enigmatic, controversial, and remarkable figure that was Carolus XII Rex (1682-1718) – the “Lion of the North” or “Swedish Meteor”. Council Member Professor David Goldsmith spoke about the founder of the current Royal House of Bernadotte – Carl XIV Johan (formerly Jean Bernadotte) 1763-1844. There was royal quiz with suitably regal prizes for those who snatch the crowns, while enjoying aperitifs, wine and buffet food at one of the nicest clubs in London.
