The Voyages of the Vikings. Finding Paths Across the Northern Seas

Dr Greer Jarrett gave a fascinating online talk to the society. He is an archaeologist living in Sweden and is affiliated with Lund University. He spoke about his fascinating studies of Viking seafarers.

He took 26 Voyages in traditional boats and spent three years travelling in vessels built like those from 1,000 years ago, covering over 3,000 miles. He discovered lost sea routes, hidden trade harbours and new respect for Viking seamanship. He spoke about how the Vikings sailed farther away from Scandinavia, and took routes farther from land, than was previously believed to have been possible.
